What skills and experience we're looking for:-

Required for the new year (January 2024 start or Easter 2024 by negotiation), an inspirational and outstanding practitioner, to lead the development of Music - the heartbeat of Humphry Davy School.

Beethoven believed “Music can change the World” and at Humphry Davy School we believe music to be a powerful tool to promote engagement, creative thinking, mutual appreciation and teamwork, all the while generating a sense of belonging and aiding wellbeing.

As the Director of Music, you must be able to enthuse, engage, motivate and inspire students, staff and parents through your passion for your subject, creative teaching, presence and personality.

Applications are welcome from individuals who can demonstrate a track record of successful innovative practice, the capacity for leadership at a higher level and share our commitment to provide the highest quality of education for all our young people.

What the school offers its staff:-

This is an exciting time to join our successful Music department in a school consistently described by parents, students and community as possessing ‘a genuine family atmosphere’. OfSTED (May 2023) judged the school to continue to be ‘Good’. A place where, “Pupils enjoy attending. They feel safe, happy and well-cared for. Pupils value the warm and respectful relationships they have with their teachers. It is a highly inclusive school”.

The report highlighted that “Music remains central to the school’s ethos” whilst noting that students take part in “a variety of creative, musical and sporting opportunities”. We are extremely proud of the achievement of our students, gaining local and even national recognition. Our students have had the opportunity to perform on stages such as Boardmasters, Music for Youth National, The Royal Albert Hall and even Disneyland Paris!

This post within our leadership structure reflects the School’s continuing ambition and the successful candidate can be assured of our full support in pursuit of their career goals. The development of staff is fundamental to raising standards and our high-quality programme of whole school professional development is supplemented with input from our experienced and successful Creative Arts team.

The full range of staff well-being and support strategies can be found in our policy available on the school website, but includes:

• Access to Health and Wellbeing support through the ‘Schools Advisory Service’ including 24-hour GP access, Physiotherapy, some private Medical operations, Counselling & Mindfulness and Staff wellbeing clinics.

• Termly wellbeing events where staff can learn a new craft, socialize and generally ‘have fun’ as a community!

• Flexible working options in pursuit of a work/life balance

• An ‘open door’ policy to ensure staff are able to easily seek advice, share thoughts and help us develop our policy and practice.

• Access to the Cornwall Council ‘One and All Employee Benefits’ including ‘Techscheme’, Cycle to Work scheme, Discounted memberships and 'on-line’ and ‘in-store’ discounts including major high street stores.
