Our school educates children from 4 through to 11 years of age; Reception to Year 6; with three classes in each year group.

After Year 6, a large majority of our pupils continue their education at Hinchley Wood School which is located on the site adjacent to our school. This creates a strong community feel in our schools; many of our pupils (and their parents/carers) have long friendships stretching from nursery all the way to sixth form and beyond.

We are fortunate to be located in a large building on extensive grounds, meaning that our children benefit from many areas to play and learn. All of our classrooms are bright, spacious and well resourced.

In terms of outdoor space we are truly spoilt! Reception classes have their own outdoor space which they use every day. We also have a large sports field, a fenced MUGA for various sports, artificial grassed areas and multiple playgrounds with modern, newly installed play equipment for the children to enjoy.

We are dedicated to providing the best possible education for every pupil in a stimulating and safe environment. We follow a rich curriculum and aim to make learning exciting and engaging. Our staff work tirelessly to provide a safe, secure and happy learning environment in which every child can shine and flourish in all aspects of school life.

Our Values

Values are principles that guide behaviour and choices. Our values help teach pupils how to develop their character, guide their decisions, behaviour and learning.

Our five values of Confidence, Consideration, Determination, Enthusiasm and Independence are evident through all of our work and day to day school life.

  • We use our 'Stay on Green' reward system throughout the school reflecting our values and giving children a daily reminder of our high expectations of their attitude to work and behaviour.
  • We have also introduced 'Well Being Ambassadors' throughout the school. These are children who have put themselves forward to help others. The elected ambassadors mentor and support other children at playtimes and lunchtimes whilst independently arranging suitable activities. They have proven to be a great asset for the well-being of all involved and also strong demonstrators of our values.
  • Consideration for one another takes many forms at HWPS. This includes learning about other cultures, various disabilities, being thoughtful and inclusive, listening to different points of view and showing respect to everyone and the environment around us. We are very proud of the excellent behaviour and kindness shown at our school.

Curriculum Drivers

Our key curriculum drivers ensure that the knowledge children gain goes beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum.

These 5 drivers have been carefully selected by the staff of Hinchley Wood Primary School to ensure that the children are equipped with transferrable skills they can take into the wider world.

  • Values: Confidence, Consideration, Determination, Enthusiasm and Independence
  • Wellbeing: Mental health and wellbeing are central to the work we do; this incorporates our children and families understanding how to look after themselves as well as each other.
  • Communication and cooperation: We want pupils to develop the skills necessary to communicate their thoughts, ideas and feelings successfully in a wide range of different forms.
  • Belonging: We want our children to develop a sense of belonging, embrace the community and diverse world that we are a part of understand some of the past and present global issues that have taken place.
  • Influence: We want pupils to understand the impacts of actions and events. Through our curriculum we want learners to understand that they can lead positive change and develop the required skills to do so.

Our lessons immerse pupils in meaningful learning opportunities ensuring they thrive throughout their time at school, whilst preparing them for an ever-changing world. Activities are designed to engage, motivate and inspire all pupils to reach their full potential. We teach our pupils fundamental skills such as teamwork and resilience, whilst enabling them to complete learning of which they are truly proud.
