Full time permanent Assistant Headteacher L13-17 for September 2024 - Head of Secondary Resource Base

Islwyn High School is seeking to appoint an Assistant Headteacher to join the school’s Senior Leadership Team as the Head of our Specialist Secondary Resource Base. The successful candidate will be a full member of the team and will work with governors, staff and the LA to ensure that all pupils in our school feel that they belong and believe that they can achieve to the best of their ability.

The Special Resource Base currently has 62 places for pupils with either a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Individual Development Plan. Pupils attend the Resource Base from the whole of Caerphilly Local Authority.   All the pupils have complex needs including learning difficulties, medical conditions, speech and language difficulties, social and emotional difficulties and challenging behaviour.  The SRB has six classes each with a class teacher and a team of support staff. Pupils are taught through a topic based curriculum by their class teacher and work in a specially designed and self contained environment but access main school when appropriate. Specialist SRB staff provide a broad and balanced curriculum which includes classroom lessons, as well as engaging opportunities in the local community and the SSRB was praised by ESTYN when they last visited the school.

Governors are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, inspirational and highly motivated individual to lead our strong, forward-thinking and successful team. You will lead a supportive and enthusiastic team that inspires both learners and colleagues to reach their full potential. 

The successful candidate will be working in a purpose built new school completed in 2017. The main structure of the school is three storeys high with a sports hall of a similar height linked, via a glass bridge, to a two-storey building that is the school dining hall. This modern design also include a garden, an amphitheatre and a pond. The school boasts a floodlit 3G sports pitch, and fitness suite, along with a multi-use sports pitch for netball and tennis. There is an outstanding performance hall and music suite. .
