Academy Information

John Cabot Academy is an 11-16 academy in South Gloucestershire, close to the border of Bristol. We share our site and staffing with the CLF Post-16 provision, forming an 11-18 academy, which has earned a strong reputation both locally and regionally.

We want our students to thrive academically; flourish and grow as young people. When they leave us they will have a strong sense of self, their place in the world and the agency to fulfil their potential. To fulfill this ambition, our staff are inspired by learning and create a school where students are engaged, challenged and inspired.

We have a supportive and compassionate culture in which the whole person is nurtured and the voice of students is valued. We celebrate the diversity of the members our community by enabling them to learn from each other, by encouraging them to respect each other’s differences, and by providing opportunities to contribute to academy life and the wider community.

Trust Information

Background

The Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) is celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2025, having grown from its Bristol beginnings to its current total of 35 schools operating between Gloucestershire in the north and Somerset in the south. Throughout that evolution, our core purpose has remained consistent: we believe that by working together rather than in isolation, we can accelerate school improvement and embed excellence in our academies. In doing so, we create more opportunities for the lifelong success of our students.

Mission

To consistently deliver excellent educational experiences for pupils aged 2-19, improving their life chances and serving the communities of which we are a member.

Vision

Our vision is simple: we believe that by working together rather than in isolation we can accelerate school improvement and embed excellence in our academies. In doing so, together we can create more opportunities for the lifelong success for our students. That mission is underpinned by our long-established HEART values, which shape our decision-making and behaviours. These values ensure our students are at the forefront of our minds as we seek to deliver on our strategic goal of creating equity through education.

Our culture is one of purpose and collaboration, and its key binding agent is a shared, and deep-rooted moral imperative to improve lives.

Our People

We are keen to attract talented and committed people who share our values and who will unite behind our mission.

We see our people as our strength, and seek colleagues who are comfortable with complexity and make a virtue of doing better and improving standards. Our people are learners, committed to deepening their knowledge and understanding of themselves, their role, their position of influence and responsibility to those we support to thrive in their lives

We want our staff to be engaged and motivated to be the best versions of themselves every day.

In return, we offer an environment which is welcoming, diverse and inclusive of all, and fully representative of the communities we serve. And while we work hard, we also value balance in our busy lives, and use modern technology to support us and adopt flexible approaches to working and learning.

We care about our people and their wellbeing and support all colleagues with a host of resources, from wellbeing apps to counselling and access to occupational health. We offer an environment where everyone can thrive, enjoy a sense of belonging and achieve ongoing work fulfilment and career development within resilient and empowered teams shaped by inspiring leaders.

If this sounds like an organisation where you could flourish, we would love to hear from you.

Why CLF?

We are a diverse and inclusive community of 35 academies across five cluster regions in the South West that is committed to excellence and making a positive impact. Our people bring unique perspectives, but we’re all driven by a shared moral purpose and a passion for making a positive impact, whether in a teaching, leadership or support role. We’re proud to foster a culture where everyone can thrive, feel valued, and make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.

We are an equal opportunity employer and proud to serve a diverse student population and our communities. We strongly believe that representation matters. Over 59% of the students who attend John Cabot Academy are from global majority groups, so we particularly encourage applicants from those groups in order to represent the students we serve, as well as wider underrepresented groups including gender, transgender, age disability, sexual orientation or religion.

We aim to remove any barriers to employment, ensuring everyone can compete on equal terms. Job share, part-time and flexible working opportunities will be considered.
