Following an internal promotion, we are looking for SEN Teaching Assistant - Level C

Grade 7

Pay Points 11 - 14

£24,707.00 - £25,983.00 Annually (FTE)

Approximate actual salary at pay point 11 £18,567 

32.5 hours per week   39 weeks a year 

Keyham Lodge School is a SEN school for children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties.  All students have an education health care plan and the school cohort is made up of KS3 and KS4 and caters for both girls and boys from KS3 upwards. Our aim is to ensure the academic, personal and social development of all of our students so that they can develop their potential both in school and in the wider community. We understand that our students have individual talents and in order to ensure success for every child, we believe that education goes beyond the core curriculum and out of the confines of the classroom and consequently we have adapted our curriculum offer to ensure students are prepared for the next stage of their life, whether that be within education or in the workplace.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To plan and provide specialist support to pupils with identified disabilities, SEN, sensory impairments and complex needs to access a broad and balanced curriculum of education by modifying and adapting learning activities as appropriate.
  • Supports the special education and personal social wellbeing of pupils by adapting and differentiating activities to enable them to access the curriculum under the direction and guidance of teachers or advisory staff.
  • To assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment using detailed specialist knowledge.
  • To support parents and enable them to understand their children’s complex needs and give sound advice in regards of their child’s education.
  • To provide appropriate supervision to individuals or groups in a variety of settings; including school, Pupils home environment or unit monitoring their conduct and behaviour.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification e.g. Teaching Assistant awards, English GCSE (A*-C), Level 2 Basic Skills Literacy, CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Child Care and Education
  • Experience of working with children of the age with which the post is concerned.
  • Knowledge & understanding of at least one area of learning, e.g. English, Maths, Science, SEN, Early Years, and KS 3 Strategy for literacy or numeracy.
  • Able to plan own work and to exercise initiative and independent action.
  • Able to relate well to adults and children their learning difficulties and their needs
