Help us to build our school!
Surrey Maths School (SuMS) is a specialist 16-19 Maths School which opened in Guildford in September 2024 to serve students across the South East, aiming to become a hub of excellence for the teaching of the mathematical sciences.
We are seeking to appoint an organised, efficient and enthusiastic Exam Officer. As a brand-new school, in an exciting phase of growth and development we will see our first cohort of students sit their exams in summer 2026. This role will suit someone excited to be part of a new team, happy to take on a variety of duties and in its first year and looking to develop their own skills as the role develops over time.
About the role
As an Exams Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing all aspects of the examinations process, including:
• Coordinating exam entries, timetables, and seating plans.
• Ensuring compliance with JCQ regulations and exam board requirements.
• Managing secure storage and distribution of exam papers.
• Recruiting and training invigilators.
• Overseeing post-exam processes such as results services and data returns.
You will work closely with senior leaders and other staff to ensure exams run smoothly and efficiently.
The post holder will work 14.5 hours per week (0.4 FTE) across 40 weeks of the year and will also be required to work at least two days in August to support A-level results. There is flexibility in how these hours are distributed across the academic year, and the scope to adjust depending on the needs of the role. Please note that hours and working days will increase during exam periods.
What we are looking for
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Previous experience in an administrative or organisational role (education setting desirable).
• Commitment to the vision and values of Surrey Maths School.
Knowledge of JCQ regulations and exam board procedures is desirable but not essential—training will be provided
This is a unique opportunity to work in an environment where there is real excitement and enthusiasm for the mathematical sciences and where you have the chance to shape the minds of the future as part of a dedicated and supportive team.
