Aspiring Trainee Teachers
We are looking for degree-level post-graduates interested in going into secondary school teaching; find out more about how to get into secondary teaching and choose George Abbot School as your main placement school – Wednesday 13 May 2026, 10.00am-12.00pm, our information event at George Abbot.
George Abbot School has a successful record of hosting trainee teachers, as part of the South Farnham Educational Trust (SFET) School-Centre Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) one-year programme. We then go on to employ many of them.
Each year, we host around 10 main placement trainees in a full range of curriculum subjects. Each trainee is allocated an experienced subject-specialist mentor to support and guide them through their training year. SFET also provides a calendar of weekly Professional Studies, which take place each week on Wednesdays on the school site.
On the day, you will find out:
• What it is like to train to be a teacher at George Abbot
• How the SFET SCITT programme is delivered at our school
• What training to be a teacher entails.
Why choose us?
Ofsted (February 2025) said: “Staff and pupils work hard together in this strong school community. The school is highly ambitious for its pupils. Staff provide high-quality teaching and support which takes account of pupils’ starting points and needs. The school is a calm, safe, purposeful place. Pupils are exceptionally courteous and polite. They treat each other with respect and care.”
Good Schools Guide (June 2024) said: “Parents and pupils attribute the school’s success to its ‘strong leadership’ and ‘supportive teachers’. Pupils felt that many go ‘above and beyond’, making lessons enjoyable and interactive and sharing their passion for their subjects. The school motto, "not for oneself but for all," encourages an altruistic and reflective attitude.”
