Head of KS5 Maths

MPS/UPS + TLR

Required from September 2026

NOR: 1960 (11-18) (450+ in Sixth Form)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and inspirational KS5 Maths Lead to join our thriving and highly successful Mathematics Department for a September 2026 start; this is a full time and permanent position. This is an exciting and rare opportunity for a passionate mathematician with a strong track record in teaching, leadership, and curriculum development within Key Stage 5. All applicants must demonstrate a passion for their subject, and the ability and skills as a teacher to inspire curiosity and problem solving.

The candidate appointed will join a thriving and supportive Mathematics Faculty made up of 19 staff. The faculty regularly achieves excellent results at GCSE (P8 well above national average) and the school’s A Level Mathematics results have consistently been in the top 10% of schools for L3VA nationally. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach across all three key stages. In the Sixth Form, 45% of our 450 Sixth Form students currently take Maths as an option and we offer both Maths and Further Maths A Levels. Within such a strong department at a large school, there are many opportunities for the successful applicant to take on extra responsibilities and develop professionally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the strategic planning and delivery of the A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics curriculum, including designing high-quality schemes of work, assessments, and intervention materials for Year 12 and Year 13.

• Manage and develop a large team of A Level mathematics teachers, offering support, coaching, and professional development to both experienced colleagues and those new to KS5 teaching.

• Oversee academic tracking, organise targeted support and enrichment classes, and maintain strong communication with parents, carers, and the student cohort.

• Provide leadership for a large and ambitious KS5 cohort (typically 70–80 A Level Mathematics students and approximately 15 Further Mathematics students).

• Support Oxbridge and other early-entry candidates, guiding them through advanced problem-solving, entrance assessments, and mock interviews.

Person Specification:

• Excellent subject knowledge with a strong understanding of both the A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics specifications; experience teaching a range of Further Maths modules is highly desirable.

• Proven leadership skills with experience in team management, mentoring, or curriculum leadership.

• Outstanding organisational skills and the ability to manage a fast-paced, rewarding workload.

• A genuine passion for mathematics, with the ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues alike.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious, committed, and enthusiastic maths specialist who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to lead a dedicated team in a large, supportive, and successful school.

Why choose us?

Ofsted (February 2025) said: “Staff and pupils work hard together in this strong school community. The school is highly ambitious for its pupils. Staff provide high-quality teaching and support which takes account of pupils’ starting points and needs. The school is a calm, safe, purposeful place. Pupils are exceptionally courteous and polite. They treat each other with respect and care.”

Good Schools Guide (June 2024) said: “Parents and pupils attribute the school’s success to its ‘strong leadership’ and ‘supportive teachers’. Pupils felt that many go ‘above and beyond’, making lessons enjoyable and interactive and sharing their passion for their subjects. The school motto, "not for oneself but for all," encourages an altruistic and reflective attitude.”
