We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and creative practitioner to join our friendly, hardworking and supportive team in this popular village school on part time basis. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated person who has vision and imagination, who is both passionate about children’s learning and committed to providing additional support to help them meet their full potential whilst recognising the emotional challenges they may have.

At Pirbright Village Primary School it is understood that for pupils to be successful academically, they need to be happy and feel safe in their environment. At times in a child’s life, there will be moments when they feel insecure, worried or concerned. There will also be times when children go through changes in circumstance, which may result in home life straying from what they know as the norm. During these times, our PEDALS (Promoting Emotional Development and Life Skills) team is here to help.

Working in unison with the Home School Link Worker, you are here to help pupils and their families during periods of anxiety, uncertainty and/or upheaval by offering Talk Time, along with focused support, to explore feelings and identify useful coping strategies. The PEDALS Team work out of the PEDALS Pod, which is their own dedicated building. Your role will provide opportunities to understand emotions and develop pupil’s self-worth, confidence, motivation, trust, self-esteem and adaptability. All this is done whilst providing a safe, calm and nurturing environment, alongside a programme of activities structured to the emotional, social and intellectual needs of each pupil. Please see the attached job description for further details on the role.

We offer an ambitious and creative place to work with leaders who are happy to assist and support the right candidate in achieving their professional goals. We work collaboratively with other local schools in different ways and are constantly on the look-out for opportunities to enhance our provision. We are keen to know what new team members could bring to support us with this!

Applicants should:

• understand the importance of safeguarding as being the school’s most important priority

• have experience of working with children’s mental health and well-being

• ideally have experience of facilitating parenting support programs

• ideally have an ELSA qualification or something similar

• ideally have experience working in a pastoral setting

aspire to be an excellent practitioner

• have personal presence and confidence, warmth and sensitivity, flexibility and maturity of approach, enthusiasm and a sense of humour.

• have the ability to communicate effectively and positively with pupils, colleagues and parents

• enjoy working as part of hard working, dedicated and fun team

We can offer the successful candidate:

• a school with beautiful grounds situated within a wonderful village setting

• a dedicated work space for the pastoral team

• a school where staff enjoy working as part of a team, supporting each other in a variety of ways

• a commitment to professional development

• Encourage the development of positive social relationships with both peers and adults.

The hours are very flexible (21 per week) and dependent on the candidate; we would like to liaise with you to make the role work for everyone and are open to suggestions! We would love to meet you for a school tour if you are interested. For more information please contact the school office.
