Our fabulous Primary School in Leatherhead is looking to appoint a SEND assistant to work with our wonderful pupils.

We are looking for someone with an interest in SEND and in supporting children to achieve, regardless of barriers. Our children need someone passionate, dedicated and nurturing to embrace their needs and help them meet their targets. Although the role will involve a high level of 1:1 work with specific pupils, you will also be supporting with whole class and year group activities as well as working with small groups throughout the day. Each child has a bespoke timetable that reflects: their needs, the therapy and interventions needed to support their development alongside academic progress and attainment.

30 Hours per week 38.6 week a year, Part time 15 hours per week job share

We have a Low COIN centre for children with developmental language disorders/delays and an integral part of the school, offering 21 specialist places from Reception to Year 6 and the role will involve supporting children both within the centre and within the mainstream.

Person Specification

  • Interest in SEND, especially communication and interaction needs
  • Experience working with SEND children is desirable but not essential
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to act on feedback
  • Excellent communication skills
  • ELKLAN, Makaton, Shape Coding or other relevant training is desirable but not essential (we can offer a wide range of training and CPD opportunities for the right candidate)
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to display a confident, positive and pro-active attitude towards pupils and their work
  • Experience of undertaking observations of children’s learning
  • Understanding of the Early Years Framework and Key Stage 1 Curriculum is desirable
  • Excellent organisational skills are essential
  • Willingness to carry out intimate care needs of the child/children

This role is conditional to the child staying at Leatherhead Trinity School and\or the EHCP funding continuing. Should either of these conditions change then the post will cease.
