Due to internal progression, Leicester College is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Motor Vehicle Lecturer to join the Engineering team.
We welcome applications from experienced lecturers and skilled Motor Vehicle professionals who are considering moving into teaching. Previous teaching experience is not essential. If you have strong industry knowledge, enjoy developing others and are willing to gain a teaching qualification, we would be pleased to hear from you.
The role
You will primarily teach IMI Level 2 and Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair programmes, delivering both practical workshop sessions and classroom-based theory lessons.
You will support learners to develop the technical knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours needed to progress into employment, apprenticeships or further study.
Key responsibilities
You will:
- Plan and deliver engaging practical and theory lessons
- Teach and assess learners studying IMI Level 2 and Level 3 programmes
- Create a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment
- Conduct practical observations and assess written work
- Provide clear and constructive feedback
- Monitor learners’ attendance, progress and achievement
- Maintain accurate assessment and learner records
- Follow IMI, College and internal quality assurance requirements
- Use digital technology to support teaching, assessment and communication
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to curriculum development
- Maintain current industry knowledge through professional development
What we are looking for
You should have:
- A relevant Motor Vehicle qualification at Level 3 or above; however, applicants with a Level 2 qualification and substantial, current industry experience will also be considered
- Strong and current industry experience in light vehicle maintenance, repair and diagnosis
- A relevant Level 4/5 qualification or significant relevant industrial experience
- English and maths at Level 2, GCSE grade 4/C or above, or equivalent
- Good communication, organisational and digital skills
- A commitment to helping young people and adult learners succeed
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
- You should hold a full teaching qualification at Level 5 or above or be willing to work towards one. If you are new to teaching, Leicester College will support you in gaining the required qualification.
Desirable experience and qualifications
It would be beneficial, but not essential, if you have:
- Experience of teaching, training, coaching or mentoring others
- Experience of working with young people, adults or apprentices
- Electric or hybrid vehicle qualifications or experience
- An assessor or internal quality assurance qualification
- Knowledge of IMI assessment and quality assurance processes
