The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and well-qualified Teacher of English to join our successful and supportive English Department on a fixed-term basis, covering maternity leave from 28 August 2025.
This is a rewarding opportunity to teach highly motivated pupils in a school that values creativity, curiosity, and intellectual ambition. You will teach across Years 7–13, including GCSE and A-Level English, in a department known for its collaborative ethos and consistently excellent results.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver engaging and effective lessons in English Language and Literature
- Plan and assess in line with departmental policy and AQA specifications
- Support all pupils to achieve their best through inclusive and adaptive teaching
- Prepare pupils for internal and external assessments, including GCSE and A-Level
- Pastoral and Wider Contribution
- Provide pastoral support as a Form Tutor or support tutor
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through events, trips, and enrichment activities
- Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues
Professional Development
- Participate in departmental planning and school-wide CPD
- Engage in the school’s performance development processes
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree in English or a related subject
- Qualified teacher status (e.g. PGCE or equivalent)
- Experience teaching English to at least GCSE level
- Strong subject knowledge and excellent communication skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils
Desirable
- Experience teaching A-Level English
- Familiarity with the AQA specification
- Experience in the independent or high-achieving sector
- Willingness to contribute to co-curricular and enrichment activities
