Llangatwg Community School wish to appoint a Family Engagement Officer roles to continue to strengthen relationships between home and school, and offer a support across the Llangatwg catchment.
The post is term time with the expectation of post holders to be present in school between the hours of 8:30am-3:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Our mission is clear; to support schools to develop positive, pro-active and personalised engagement opportunities to parents and family members.
You will be supported by the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) and the Learning Community Manager and Community Focused Schools to develop the role in line with your strengths.
Working under the direction of the school and Learning Community Manager to offer practical help and support families experiencing a variety of challenges.
Outline of Role:
- Increase parent and family involvement in school life, supporting families to build excellent home-school relationships.
- Develop strong relationships with children and young people, parents/carers and school staff to understand their views and experiences.
- Working with the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) and Learning Community Manager to support consultation sessions with pupils, parents, family members and school staff to identify need.
- Provide opportunities for parents and family members to engage with their child’s learning through the provision of family learning opportunities within the school.
- Support parents and family members to attend a series of events and activities both at school and within the community, timetabled by the Learning Community Manager.
- Deliver coffee mornings, family drop-in sessions, and some after-school initiatives, creating a welcoming environment for families and external partners alike.
- Where relevant, support the school in improving pupil attendance using a variety of approaches, and through collaboration with statutory services.
- Work with families identified by the school and the Community Lead to provide support in signposting to professionals across the local authority.
- Ensure that all activities undertaken are monitored and evaluated to meet grant funding requirements and performance measures, and are in line with the whole school priorities.
- Participate in regular meetings with the assistant headteacher (Inclusion) and Learning Community Manager to report on outcomes of engagement, maintaining accurate and confidential records to record progress.
- To contribute to the work carried out by the school and carry out other duties required to mitigate the effects of child poverty on educational attainment.
- Provide written reports through Microsoft Word and Powerpoint to senior leadership teams, school governors and community networks as directed by the Assistant Headteacher.
- Ensure both structured and informal support is offered to parents and family members around the point of transition (year 6 to year 7) and mid-year moves between schools.
- Attend INSET day training sessions and relevant after school sessions to meet the needs of the service.
- At all times, follow safeguarding policies of both the individual school and the Community Focused Schools team.

- Attend and actively participate in Family Engagement Officer networks and the Community network for the geographical area.
- Participate and engage in training and professional learning offers through the Community Focused Schools team.
- Participate and adhere to all NPTCBC policies in line with safeguarding, lone working and child protection.
