Welcome

Loughborough can trace its origins back to a Saxon village and by the 13th century it had grown to a busy market town with a weekly market and annual fair. A weekly market is still a popular and busy feature to this day, with an annual funfair open for four-five days each November.

With both Loughborough University and Loughborough College on our doorstep the town is vibrant with students enjoying the local shops, cafes, pubs and two cinemas. Cineworld has food and drink franchises and provides a meeting place for students.

Loughborough University enjoys an excellent reputation for excellence in sports and has produced renowned athletes such as Paula Radcliffe and Sebastian Coe (Lord Coe). An up and coming athlete to keep an eye out for is Adam Gemili (Sprinter) who was successful in the London 2012 Olympics and is training for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Adam lives and trains in Loughborough.

For culture vultures De Montfort Hall, Birmingham NEC and Barclaycard Arena plus the Nottingham Motorpoint Arena and Playhouse are within easy travelling distance.

For people who are considering moving to Loughborough from the southern counties of England, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much more you get for your money when buying property. Detached property is available in the price range of £144,000 to £462,500+ and it is all within easy access of the countryside with large parks a short car ride away.

Loughborough is fortunate that its rail links mean that Nottingham, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester are within easy reach as follows:

Nottingham – travel time of 20 minutes

Birmingham – travel time of 1 hour 15 minutes

Leeds – travel time of 2 hours

Sheffield – 1 hour (fast train)

Manchester (Centre) – 2.5 hours

Easy access to the M1 means that the famous Peak District is easily accessible;

Ashbourne within 1 hour, Buxton within 1 hour 30 minutes, Bakewell is reached in 1 hour 15 minutes and Matlock Bath is just an hour’s drive away.

There is something for everyone in and around Loughborough!

About Us

Loughborough Schools Foundation is a charitable foundation of four independent schools operating under a single Board of Trustees/Directors. The Foundation comprises Loughborough Grammar School (boys, 10-18, day and boarding), Loughborough High School (girls, 11-18), Fairfield Prep School (co-educational, 3-11) and Loughborough Amherst School (co-educational 4-18).

Loughborough Grammar School was established in 1495, both Loughborough High School and Loughborough Amherst School in 1850, whilst Fairfield Prep School has been an autonomous school since 1969.

The schools are situated on two neighbouring campuses on the south side of Loughborough. They enjoy an excellent reputation for their academic, cultural and sporting achievements, and for the quality of their pastoral care. An extensive transport system for pupils operates across the East Midlands.

Loughborough Schools Foundation is renowned for its ongoing programme of improvements to its facilities. Significant investment has been made in a state-of-the-art science park and a dedicated Music department, and at Fairfield, an £8m new school building has opened which has provided extra space which all pupils are benefiting from, in addition to a purpose-built Kindergarten unit for children from 3 years. In autumn 2016, Loughborough Nursery also opened for children from 6 weeks to 4 years.

Loughborough Schools Foundation employs approximately 600 staff in both teaching and non-teaching roles. The four Heads are responsible for the management of educational activities whilst business aspects of the Foundation are managed by the Chief Operating Officer through the centralised functions of finance, estates, health & safety, catering, network services, human resources, marketing, commercial, and the development office.
