The School

Gordano School is a large and highly successful 11-18 comprehensive secondary school approximately eight miles outside Bristol. We are very proud to be the sole secondary school serving the thriving town of Portishead, and benefit greatly from being a central part of our community.

We view education as something bigger than just academic achievement. We are proud of our considerable academic success, but believe that an education should be about preparing young people for their future lives in a complete sense. As well as consistently positive Progress 8 and Level 3 Value Added outcomes at GCSE and A Level respectively we place great emphasis on student leadership, an unparalleled extra-curricular programme and student progression to their next steps in a wide range of academic or vocational routes.

We value our membership of the Lighthouse Schools Partnership, the North Somerset Teaching Alliance and our role as a Teaching School in delivering high quality support and development for colleagues, both new to the profession and more established. Our size allows regular opportunities for progression into leadership roles.

We were judged Outstanding in all categories in our last Ofsted inspection in 2012, but, just as importantly, seek to be a very happy school for our students and staff.

The Role

Gordano School is seeking to appoint reliable and confident people to join the invigilation team to work on a casual basis during the school academic year. Experience is not essential - training will be provided.

You will be responsible for maintaining the security of the examination question papers at all times and conducting examinations in accordance with exam board regulations. Successful applicants will work as part of a team, have a good eye for detail and be able to remain calm in all situations. You will need to demonstrate good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills. You will also need to be flexible, punctual and reliable.

Interested applicants must be available to work for at least part of the main examination season of mid-May to late June, and preference will be given to applicants with a high degree of availability during that time. Other exams that require invigilating run throughout the academic year. You will need to be able to start at 8:00 for most morning exams and 13:00 for afternoon exams. Exam sessions are generally between one and four hours long, depending on the length of exam and the number of papers that need processing afterwards. You will be asked for your availability before being allocated sessions.

Applications should be submitted by covering letter and application form by 9am, Monday 15th August 2022

Interviews will be held in September.

Gordano School supports Equal Opportunities Employment.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Enhanced DBS checks are required for all successful applicants.
