Welcome

A very warm welcome to the Lydeard St Lawrence Primary School website.

Lydeard St Lawrence Primary School is characterised by community spirit, creativity, aspiration and respect. At Lydeard St Lawrence Primary School we believe that all children should be equipped with the skills and knowledge to pursue any, or all, of their aspirations. To enable this we seek to develop the children's self-confidence and independence by:

  • delivering a broad and engaging education
  • having high expectations in learning and behaviour
  • encouraging children to participate in the range of opportunities available to them
  • developing a love of lifelong learning

Most importantly we expect our children, staff and the wider school community, to respect and look after one another.

The school has a beautiful setting with expansive grounds, consisting of a large playing and sports field, a secret garden/forest school area and greenery surrounding us. We are often out and about in the village for seasonal walks, nature studies and events at the church.

As a team we are incredibly proud of our school and community.

About Us

We are situated in the small rural village called Lydeard St Lawrence. Our school was built in 1876 and is a traditional construction, made of local red sandstone and brick. On the site there are three newer buildings that comprise of two classrooms, a dining area and a sensory room.

We are also incredibly lucky to have an onsite playing field and an enclosed area to accommodate forest school.

In our school there are approximately 50 children on roll aged 4 to 11 years old. When the children leave at the end of year 6 most transition to Kingsmead Secondary School.

Our Vision

Our vision is to enable our children to become outward looking, curious, innovative individuals, who learn in a school which has creativity, inclusivity and holistic learning at its core.

Our School Values

Our values were chosen through a process of collaboration with our student school and arts councils, governors and staff. These values are at the heart of everything that we do in our school:

  • We are resilient – we understand that learning is a journey at that risks and mistakes are part of how we learn.
  • We are curious – We wonder about the world. We discover new things, we challenge and question.
  • We are proud – We take pride all we do, our school, our learning and ourselves
  • We Care – we think about our community and the wider the world. We respect each other, we are kind and fair.
  • We are ambitious- There is no limit to what we can achieve.
  • We are unique – We value differences and originality. We are independent, creative and authentic

This will be achieved by valuing and promoting:

  • High quality teaching and learning
  • Outstanding behaviour
  • A rich and stimulating learning environment
  • A variety of opportunities for all learners in the curriculum
  • A high level of independence in all pupils
  • Empowerment of pupils by involving them in lesson planning
  • Responsibility of all learners to move their learning forward
  • Inclusion of parents, guardians and the wider community in supporting the learning journey
  • Our vision which is at the core of everything we do
