Malden Oaks is a unique SEMH provision, dedicated to meeting the needs of our students in a way that builds resilience and sets them up for success in the future. Our student focused approach is attachment aware and trauma informed. We have high expectations of both of our students and staff, who are afforded high levels of autonomy. Our Upper School provision supports Yr 10 and Yr 11 students through a GCSE curriculum in a small group setting.
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of Upper School and will line manage the Upper School Office Manager, Head of Year and oversee a team of teachers. They will also liaise with members of our MO Discover outreach team as well as external professionals.
There is no fixed teaching commitment for this post, but flexibility in terms of covering staff/subjects on a temporary basis is part of any leadership post.
Main responsibilities
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for Upper School students
SENCo
Liaison with EPS, social care, school nurse, and any other external services
Organising and leading on Annual Reviews
Designated teacher for CLA
Chairing ePEPs and contributing to CLA Reviews
EDI lead
Staff: Line management/deployment/induction/support/welfare
Students: Induction/admissions/reviews/reports/references/awards/achievements eg D of E
Timetable/revision sessions/extra-curricular opportunities
Parents and carers: communication/meetings/parent voice
Curriculum/Learning environment/resources
Teaching and Learning, Exams & Assessment
Applicants for this post must be able to meet the following criteria:
● Be a qualified SENCO
● Proven success in teaching KS4 students, up to and including GCSE
● Proven ability to meet the pastoral needs of KS4 students
● Experience of chairing Annual reviews, liaising with the LA’s SEN Team, supporting the EHCNA process and liaising with external SEN services such as SENDIASS
● Experience of destination planning for Post 16 opportunities and transition support
● A strong commitment to meeting the needs of SEND and disadvantaged students within an attachment aware and trauma informed learning environment
● Successful and effective line management of a team
● Experience in holding staff to account
