Role: Assistant Chef

Location: Beechen Cliff

Start Date: October/November 2026

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7:10am - 2:30pm, 20 minutes break each day, term time, plus 5 inset days

Salary: Grade 5 and scale point range 11 - 17, £15.07 - £16.61 per hour, actual salary £23,626 - £26,044 per annum (Full time equivalent £29,071 - £32,046)

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to play a pivotal role in our catering operations at Beechen Cliff School, part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership. Beechen Cliff is a high-achieving boys' secondary school and co-educational sixth form in Bath.

This is a dynamic role where your background in commercial, high-volume, or institutional catering will directly support our busy school community, ensuring our pupils receive high-quality, nutritious meals every day.

Responsibilities

As an Assistant Chef, you will work closely with our Chef Manager and Lead Cooks to maintain excellence across our kitchen operations. Proven industry experience is essential for this role. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Proven Expertise: Bringing a minimum of two years of hands-on experience at the Assistant Chef level (or equivalent) in a fast-paced kitchen setting.
• Kitchen Support: Supporting the Chef Manager and Lead Cooks in daily prep, cooking, and service operations at Beechen Cliff.
• Standards & Safety: Demonstrating strong, up-to-date practical knowledge of nutrition, allergen control, and standard health and safety protocols.
• Team Leadership: Supervising, guiding, and motivating the kitchen staff effectively to foster a positive, productive working environment.
• Flexibility: Demonstrating adaptability and a willingness to assist across local sites within the Partnership when needed (mileage reimbursed).
• Collaborative Spirit: Bringing enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and a "can-do" attitude to inspire and collaborate with the team.
