Role: Assistant Chef

Location: To cover schools in the Yeovil Hub including Preston and Bucklers Mead. Home school Preston

Start Date: 1st September 2025

Hours: Monday to Friday 7:30am - 2:30pm (30 minutes break), 32.5 hours per week, 5 days a week, Term time only plus 5 inset days

Salary: Grade 3 Scale Point 5 - 7, Full time equivalent £24,790 - £25,584, Actual salary £18,708 - £19,307

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Assistant Cook to join our school catering team at the Yeovil Hub, based at Preston. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a vibrant school community, where your role will make a real difference to the daily lives of students and staff.

As an Assistant Cook, you will support the Chef Manager in preparing fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for our school community. From baking and cooking to helping with food service and kitchen organisation, you'll play a key role in ensuring our kitchen runs smoothly and safely. You’ll have the chance to develop your skills, work with a variety of ingredients, kitchen equipment and be a part of a team that values quality, creativity and care.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a busy kitchen, takes pride in their work and enjoys the satisfaction of providing great food to appreciative customers. You’ll be involved in everything from preparing sandwiches, salads and hot meals, to supporting stock management, hygiene standards and health and safety procedures. You may also be asked to help deliver meals to local schools, making this a varied and rewarding position.
