Associate SLT - Design, Computing & Open Bucket subjects including alternative accreditations

Exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, ambitious leader with a track record of impact to play a pivotal role in the development of key subjects in KS3 and KS4.

Buckler’s Mead is an ambitious school on the rise. Following a hugely successful summer where the academy recorded the best results in its history, we now wish to recruit to key positions to continue this exceptional school improvement journey. We seek to significantly invest in developing staff and this has been strengthened by our work with Trust partners.

Due to the rapid growth in popularity of a number of subjects at KS4, we are seeking an individual to develop and have significant impact on the quality of curriculum and education in both key stages. Candidates should have experience in leading Computing, Design & Technology or other alternative qualifications, with impact and success. A good working knowledge in assessment frameworks for alternative qualifications (NCFE, BTEC, CNAT) is necessary. Candidates should be aware of up to date pedagogical and curriculum thinking for Open Bucket subjects with experience of implementing these effectively, to deliver outstanding outcomes and whole school priorities. Mostly, we are looking for an ambitious, determined, hardworking individual who wants to develop and move into senior leadership.

The successful candidate will take a strategic lead with Open Bucket subjects and alternative accreditations to ensure students get the best possible teaching in KS3 and KS4. Key elements of the role include curriculum planning, assessment, moderation, working with awarding bodies, leading INSET and quality assurance. The role also involves working with SLT to deliver on whole school priorities.

The successful candidate should be:

  • Hard working & fully committed to the ethos of the academy
  • Confident in teaching at KS3 & KS4 in one or more specialisms from the open bucket
  • Able to lead a number of subjects/teams within the open bucket
  • Able to lead curriculum team to secure positive outcomes in KS4
  • Able to implement robust procedures for standardisation, marking & moderation of NEA
  • Able to apply latest pedagogy & curriculum thinking to support progression
  • Enthusiastic & willing to try new ideas, taking responsibility for new initiatives and measuring impact
  • Someone with sky high expectations of students, colleagues & themselves whilst fully appreciating the need to provide encouragement and support to students of all abilities
  • Capable of working with other staff, external agencies and partner schools.

In return we can offer you the opportunity to work with motivated students, the support of a dedicated team of staff, a supportive induction programme and ongoing professional development, plus the opportunity to work in a developing academy in a beautiful area of the South West. Staff benefits include free on-site parking, membership of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme and access to the Employee Assistance Programme “Health Assured”, a telephone based advice, information and counselling service. A selection of meals, snacks and drinks is available for staff to purchase at lunch and break times.

Buckler’s Mead Academy is a highly inclusive academy in the east of Yeovil. Our vision as an academy is “an inspiring education for all”. We believe that all members of our community should be given the opportunity to be happy, to achieve, participate and become successful. Our job as professionals is to ensure this happens. All staff sign up to these aspirations and play a full role in contributing to this vision through inclusive teaching. We seek to recruit dedicated, talented staff, highly committed to making a difference. We are part of Midsomer Norton Schools’ Partnership – a highly successful Multi Academy Trust, often considered the ‘market leader’ in the South West for school improvement. The successful candidate will benefit from trust wide opportunities, such as CPD and working with colleagues across trust schools.
