As part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, we strive to provide an education that inspires every student to achieve their full potential – academically, socially and personally.

We are seeking a Governance Professional (Clerk to Governors) to play a key role in supporting the strategic leadership of our school. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is highly organised, discreet and motivated to make a meaningful contribution to school improvement and good governance.

About the Role

Working closely with the Headteacher and Chair of Governors, you’ll ensure our Local Governing Body runs smoothly and effectively. You’ll be the trusted source of governance advice, helping the Board to make informed decisions within a clear legislative and policy framework.

Your duties will include:

  • Preparing and circulating agendas, papers and minutes for meetings
  • Advising governors on governance, legislation and procedural matters
  • Recording accurate and professional minutes of meetings and follow-up actions
  • Maintaining up-to-date records of membership, terms of office and policies
  • Supporting the induction and ongoing compliance of governors
  • Ensuring confidentiality, accuracy and professionalism in all governance matters
  • This is a part-time, flexible role ideal for someone who values independence and precision, with occasional attendance at evening meetings (around six per academic year).

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills
  • Is discreet, impartial and professional in handling sensitive information
  • Can meet deadlines and work independently with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Is committed to continuous professional development
  • Has experience in clerking, administration, or governance (desirable but not essential)
  • Training and support will be provided, including the opportunity to complete the National Training Programme for Clerks.

Why Join Beechen Cliff?

  • At Beechen Cliff, you’ll join a welcoming and dedicated team of staff who care deeply about our students and our school community. We offer:
  • A collaborative and supportive environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth
  • The chance to play a vital role in shaping the future of our school governance

There are many advantages to working for us. Included in your actual annual salary is generous annual leave entitlement, access to a local government pension scheme, sick pay scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, free eye tests and employee assistance helpline. You also have access to an employee benefits platform which offers savings on everyday essentials to special offers on travel, dining and entertainment.

We encourage early applications as we reserve the right to close the vacancy prior to the closing date if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
