Job Title: Lead teacher

Pay: MSP - UPS3 + TLR 2.3 (£8,279) + SEN (£2,679)

Responsible to: Headteacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Head

Purpose:

This is a challenging and important post requiring a teacher of the highest calibre. The successful candidate must have the ability to support and work with the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Head in all aspects of school improvement with key responsibility to develop and sustain effective practice in their phase. This post includes a class-based teaching role within the post-holder’s phase.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To carry out the duties of a school teacher as set out in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document.
  • To support, hold accountable, develop and lead the teaching team in order to secure high quality teaching, the effective use of resources and high standards of learning and achievement for all pupils.
  • To consistently model best practice and meet the expected standards.
  • To be a dedicated champion and advocate for the needs of our pupils at Soundwell and to regularly demonstrate the school values of Kindness, Belonging, Honesty and Resilience.
  • To support the development of best practice across the school.
  • To support senior leaders in robust self evaluation of teaching and learning and make a significant contribution to improving the quality of teaching and learning within and beyond the school.
  • To support the development of accurate and up to date subject knowledge.
  •  To provide support for the Assistant Head in the day to day running of the school and can deputise in his/her absence.
  • To be part of the DSL team and undertake advanced safeguarding training
  • Teaching and Learning
  • Work with colleagues across the school to improve the quality of teaching.
  • Use a range of strategies to support the development of good and outstanding teaching.
  • Monitor the quality of teaching, giving appropriate feedback to staff and accurate evaluations to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Work flexibly in the presence of the Assistant Head to assist the smooth day to day management of the school working closely with staff of all designations.
  • Assist the Headteacher, Deputy Head and Assistant Head in monitoring and reviewing the quality of teaching and learning including assessment, recording, and reporting pupils’ attainment to all statutory bodies.
  • Support the Assistant Head, Deputy Head and Headteacher in the whole school self-evaluation processes.
  • Induction and Training
  • Plan and deliver induction programmes for new staff.
  • Participate in the training of ECTs.
  • Participate in ITT partnership activities.
  • To develop a Teaching Assistant induction approach, which includes temporary to permanent staff
  • Undertake professional training for all aspects of school leadership and management and keep up to date with new initiatives across the curriculum.
  • Lead and contribute to whole-school staff training/CPD as required
  • Provide training and support to staff within school and across the Federation where appropriate.

Curriculum:

Develop teacher subject knowledge in designated curriculum area(s).

Support the Senior Leadership Team in the development of a broad, balanced and innovative curriculum including opportunities for the application of skills across the curriculum.

Effectively monitor and evaluate designated curriculum area(s) and work independently and as a team to plan and implement strategies for necessary improvements.

Produce outstanding support materials for curriculum development and implementation.

 Innovation and strategic leadership

Where appropriate, and with support from the senior leadership team, manage strategic projects at a whole school level to support the implementation of the school development plan

Keep up to date with developments in teaching and learning in designated curriculum area.

Keep up to date with national and local developments in education, specifically those related to the education of young people with special educational needs

Special notes and conditions

The postholder will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and suitability check to satisfy child protection requirements. The post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and all convictions or cautions must be declared.

The postholder has a responsibility to promote and safeguard the safety and welfare of children in accordance with the school’s child protection policies and behaviour management policy.
