Nursery Lead/Manager

Grade 5 SCP 11-17

Salary £27,269.00 - £30,060.00 pro rata

Actual Salary - £21,865.62 - £24,103.58

Start date 01st September 2025

35 hours per week term time only plus 2 insets

Longvernal Primary school is a one form entry school. Our Nursery (Acorns) has provision for children from 2 years of age and is an integral part of the school. Longvernal is accredited by the Forest School Association and we have a commitment both to Forest School and Outdoor Learning in our extensive grounds and designated Forest areas. Children in Nursery have the opportunity to receive Forest School sessions.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who will take overall responsibility for the day to day management of this nursery provision, ensuring that all relevant policies and procedures are upheld. The Nursery is fully incorporated into the wider school and the Nursery Lead will be encouraged to work as a team with the Reception teacher, who is the overall EYFs Lead. The position is for 35 hours per week, flexible/fewer working hours could be considered for the right candidate.

Furthermore the lead will be responsible for a range of management tasks;

● Liaise and engage with EYFS Lead to plan, deliver, review and continuously develop a structured and progressive curriculum

● Organising resources and planning provision

● Responsible for deployment of support staff and guiding them with their daily duties

● Meeting parents and giving them feedback

● Overseeing wraparound care for the nursery

● To liaise with other professionals and agencies as and when necessary, including attending meetings

● To ensure the nursery is compliant with the statutory EYFS framework, Ofsted and Environmental Health standards are met at all times

● To undertake any other duties which are deemed to fall within the responsibility of the post

● Have a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and to adhere to school policies relating to safeguarding

● Early Years SEN experience is a must alongside delivering Makaton and working with non-verbal children and delivering early communication intervention such as Bucket Inclusion funding experience is a must

Skills/Qualifications

Ideally the Nursery Leader will have NVQ Level 4 or above in Early Years Child Education

Knowledge and understanding of Ofsted standards. Knowledge of Child protection procedures. Knowledge and experience of management responsibilities. Strong leadership skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with parents and professionals. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to motivate a team. Commitment to providing a high quality service. Ability to use own initiative. Confidence to consult others when necessary. Understanding of commercial decisions. Attend to pupils needs and implement related personal programs including health, social, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters as appropriate.
