Performing Arts Technician
Salary: £25,185- £25,583 per annum, pro rata (Grade 2, SCP 4-5)
Actual salary: £4,678- £4,752 per annum
Working hours: 8 hours per week during term time only plus 5 INSET days. Please note that additional hours will be required to support school performance evenings and events.

The Role
Hayesfield Girls’ School is seeking a versatile and enthusiastic Performing Arts Technician to support our vibrant Music and Drama departments. This role is at the heart of our school’s creative life, ensuring that our Recording Studio, Theatre, and performance spaces are technical centres of excellence. You will provide essential support for practical lessons, GCSE/A-Level assessments, and the wide range of high-profile school events and assemblies that define our school culture.
The key responsibilities are:
- Technical Theatre & Sound: Set up and operate sound and lighting desks for concerts, assemblies, sports days, and social events. Maintain the security and tidiness of the Control Room and Comms room.
- Equipment Management: Be responsible for the checking, maintenance, and storage of all musical instruments and PA equipment. Arrange repairs and order parts as necessary to keep the department running smoothly.
- Student Mentoring: Support and manage students interested in developing their own expertise in sound and lighting technology, assisting them during practical lessons and rehearsals.
- Event Logistics: Manage the hiring of additional AV equipment for special events and act as the technical lead for school-wide audio-visual needs.
- Departmental Support: Assist with general administration, including room bookings, inventory updates, and maintaining high-quality displays across the department.
- Whole School Contribution: Support school trips, supervise pupils during planned out-of-lesson times, and work flexibly to ensure the success of evening and weekend performances.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- Education & Experience: A Level 3/A-Level qualification (or equivalent experience) in Music Technology, Theatre Technology, or a relevant field.
- Technical Knowledge: A strong working knowledge of sound and recording equipment and a "hands-on" approach to equipment maintenance.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate professionally and enthusiastically to students and staff.
- Ability to work alone in moving and setting up heavy technical equipment around the school site.
- Flexibility: A commitment to working flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for school productions and events.
Desirable Requirements
- A degree-level qualification in a relevant subject.
- A good working knowledge of production lighting technology.
- Experience working within an educational environment.
