Job Reference: Application Closing Date – May 7th 2025 (1200 noon)

Salary: L29 – L35 (£100,800 - £115,613)

Due to the retirement of our highly respected Headteacher, the Governors of Morriston Comprehensive School wish to appoint a dynamic and inspirational leader who will continue to raise aspirations and ensure consistently outstanding learning opportunities and experiences for all students.

Morriston Comprehensive School is a 11-18 school serving the north of Swansea. Our numbers have increased in recent years and we presently have over 1,075 pupils on roll. In January 2015, the school moved into a £22 million learning environment, described by Sir Terry Matthews at our official opening as ‘truly world class.’ We have invested significantly in raising the profile of innovative learning and teaching, and this is a key priority for all departments. There are excellent sporting and teaching environments, and the whole community has benefitted from this investment. Morriston Comprehensive School benefits from excellent transport links along the M4 corridor and adjoining link roads.

We pride ourselves on being a fully inclusive school, ensuring pupils of all abilities are given the opportunity to achieve and all feel valued and supported. Morriston Comprehensive School is also home to a well-established and highly valued Specialist Teaching Facility (STF) for pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties. The STF is an integral part of our inclusive school community, providing a nurturing and supportive environment where pupils thrive both academically and socially. Staff in the STF are dedicated and skilled, ensuring that pupils receive personalised learning experiences tailored to their individual needs. Our inclusive ethos ensures that STF pupils are actively involved in school life, promoting a sense of belonging and mutual respect across the whole school.

Morriston Comprehensive School is proud to have a thriving and growing sixth form that plays a vital role in the life of the school. Our post-16 provision offers a broad and inclusive curriculum that supports a wide range of learner needs, aspirations, and

future pathways. Sixth form students are excellent role models, contributing positively to the wider school community, and benefit from strong teaching, high-quality pastoral support, and opportunities for leadership and enrichment. As numbers continue to grow, we are excited to build on this success and further develop our sixth form as a centre of academic excellence and personal development.

Our vision is to be an outstanding school, built upon high expectations, rigorous self-evaluation, and a commitment to exceptional learning and teaching. This is a unique opportunity for a new leader to build upon our existing success, bring fresh perspectives on school improvement, and implement innovative changes that will further enrich the experiences of both students and staff.

We are committed to developing as a learning organisation and take pride in being a strong community school. Morriston has a dedicated and enthusiastic Governing Body who are highly ambitious for their staff and students.

The ethos of our school is built squarely around our motto of ‘Inspire - Engage - Achieve’. We aim to inspire all our learners to be the best they can be, ensure we engage equitably with children of all abilities, and ultimately ensure we achieve excellence. During the recent inspection (September 2024), Estyn recognised the headteacher’s clear vision in fostering an inclusive ethos, valuing the contributions of all, and ensuring high levels of care, support, and guidance for pupils. As a result, our students feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

We are looking for a committed professional with a proven track record of improving performance and raising standards for every member of the school community. We wish to appoint an exceptional Headteacher, with excellent leadership skills and high aspirations for our students, staff, and parents, who will continue to maintain the ethos and character of our popular school. We are seeking to appoint a leader with wide-ranging school leadership experience and excellent communication skills.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader, fully committed to the academic success, care, and wellbeing of all our students and staff. They will demonstrate the ability to inspire and lead staff, fostering a culture of high performance, whilst ensuring an inclusive and supportive environment where every child thrives.
