In this rewarding role, you will provide specialist support to students who are deaf, partially hearing, visually impaired and/or multi-sensory impaired, enabling them to fully access their learning and achieve their potential. Working closely with students, tutors and support staff, you will help create an inclusive learning environment that promotes independence, confidence and successful progression.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct and indirect support to students with sensory impairments, ensuring full access to the curriculum.

• Use a range of communication and support methods, including BSL, note-taking, assistive technology, guiding and language modification.

• Prepare and adapt learning materials to meet individual sensory needs and advise tutors on accessible resources.

• Support students to develop independence, mobility, life skills and effective use of assistive technology.

• Facilitate smooth transitions into college life and encourage positive interaction with peers and staff.

• Deliver and promote sensory awareness training and guidance across the college.

• Provide communication and mobility support during trips, work experience placements and college events.

• Attend student reviews, EHCP meetings and team meetings, contributing to student progress and support plans.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and administrative documentation.

Who You Are:

• You hold a Level 3 British Sign Language (BSL) qualification or are working towards achieving it.

• You have experience supporting individuals with sensory impairments, ideally within an educational setting.

• You understand the challenges and support needs associated with hearing and visual impairments.

• You are passionate about inclusion and empowering students to achieve independence and success.

• You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues and external partners.

• You are organised, adaptable and able to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

• You are committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and continuous professional development.

What We Offer:

• Pension: New City College provides a career average pension scheme for all staff (TPS or LGPS)

• Accessibility: All college sites are easily accessible for wheelchair users and via public transport (bus, DLR, or tube).

• On-Site Facilities: Free access to on-site gym facilities at some campuses and on-site cafes serving subsidised food and drinks.

• Staff Development: Five CPD (Continuing Professional Development) days per year, with access to industry-standard facilities and a collaborative working environment. Leading to opportunities for career advancement and professional development in a supportive setting.

• Financial Perks: Interest-free loans for annual travel season tickets. Health cash plan (reimbursement for dental, optical, and therapy treatments) and a completely confidential Employee assistance program.

• Discounts: Save money on day-to-day expenses, shopping, dining out, DIY, and travel.
