Newent Community School & Sixth Form Centre is on a determined and ambitious journey of improvement. We are strengthening the quality of teaching and learning across the school, raising expectations, and ensuring every student benefits from a rich, challenging and inspiring curriculum. As part of this work, we are seeking a talented, motivated English Teacher to join our successful and highly supportive English Department.

This is an exceptional opportunity to work alongside our newly appointed Head of Department and a team with a wealth of experience. Their collaborative, reflective and forward thinking approach ensures that you will be fully supported in the next stage of your career, whether you are an early career teacher or an established practitioner seeking new challenges.

A School on the Move

Our staff are committed, caring and united by a belief that every student deserves excellence. They support one another, share best practice, and work together with openness, integrity and a strong sense of purpose. This collective ambition is at the heart of our improvement journey.

Our students embody our values: they are polite, respectful, ready to learn, and eager to engage with the rich reading, writing and speaking opportunities that English offers.

English sits at the centre of our curriculum, and we are committed to:

  • Delivering consistently exceptional teaching that sparks curiosity, creativity and critical thinking.
  • Strengthening and enriching our curriculum, ensuring students develop powerful knowledge, cultural capital and a lifelong love of reading.
  • Raising achievement and aspiration, ensuring students at all levels make strong progress and feel confident in their learning.
  • Building a high performing department rooted in teamwork, reflective practice and high expectations.

A TLR may be available for a suitably experienced colleague ready to contribute to a key area of school improvement.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a colleague who is:

  • An exceptional classroom practitioner, able to deliver high quality, engaging lessons every day.
  • A passionate English specialist, keen to inspire young people through literature, language and creative expression.
  • A reflective professional, committed to continuous improvement and high standards.
  • A supportive team player, ready to work collaboratively with our new Head of Department and experienced colleagues.
  • An ambitious educator, excited by the opportunity to contribute to a school on a rapid upward trajectory.

Most importantly, you will champion our HEART values, Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork, and embrace the chance to help shape the next phase of our improvement journey.

If you want to make a real difference, teach with purpose, and be part of a committed, talented English team, we would be delighted to hear from you.

This is a truly exciting time to join Newent: a school moving forward with determination, ambition and a clear vision for excellence. The closing date for this role is midday Monday 13th April 2026, with interviews expected to take place during the week commencing 20th April. However, please note that where the school receives an exceptional response, shortlisting and interviews may be arranged prior to the closing date by mutual agreement.

If you wish to discuss this position, prior to applying, please contact Mrs. N. Dagada-Khan, in the first instance.
