The Role;
Newham College is looking to appoint a Campus Liaison Officer on a fixed term bases until 21/04/2026. In the role you will be a key presence on campus, supporting Senior Management and Security in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all. You will act as the first point of contact for responding to student behaviour concerns, investigating incidents, and ensuring the college’s critical incident and behaviour policies are implemented effectively. Working closely with security, curriculum managers, safeguarding teams, and external partners, you will help uphold high standards of student conduct and pastoral care.
You will also contribute to student engagement activities and support students who require additional help, promoting positive behaviours and a culture of respect throughout the college.
Key responsibilities;
Deliver excellent customer care and service to all visitors, staff, and students while maintaining acceptable behavioural standards.
Uphold college values and standards across communal areas, reporting and acting on any concerns.
Lead on implementing the college’s critical incident policy as required.
Enforce the student behaviour policy and ensure effective communication between key teams such as security, safeguarding, reception, and senior management.
Support Curriculum Heads during disciplinary investigations and prepare accurate statements.
Attend course team and safeguarding meetings to provide support and share local trends and concerns.
Participate actively in enrolment, open days, marketing events, parents’ evenings, and induction programmes.
Engage with students not meeting performance standards through intervention processes alongside managers.
Identify students requiring extra support and make appropriate referrals to Student Services or Additional Learner Support.
Liaise with parents, carers, the welfare team, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
Collaborate with managers, teachers, and coordinators to maintain and improve attendance across study programmes.
Be an active member of the safeguarding team, working with safeguarding managers to ensure learner safety.
Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience.
Qualifications:
• GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above, or Functional Skills Level 2.
• Coaching, mentoring, or youth work qualification at Level 3 or above (desirable).
• Initial teaching qualification (e.g., Award in Education and Training).
• Level 2 Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG) qualification (desirable).
Experience & Knowledge:
• Relevant and recent experience working with young people.
• Awareness of the Further Education sector or similar settings.
• Proven experience engaging young people/adults in challenging circumstances to improve behaviour and attitudes.
• Track record of working with parents/carers and external agencies.
• Knowledge and application of Behaviour for Learning strategies.
• Understanding of Equality & Diversity, British Values, and employability skills integration.
• Good understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, with a willingness to develop further knowledge.
• Awareness of health and safety requirements in a working environment.
Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including working effectively with colleagues, students, parents, and external agencies.
• Ability to motivate and relate to students from diverse backgrounds and ages, using engaging strategies to support success.
• Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office, interactive whiteboards, MS Teams, SharePoint, VLE, and online tracking/recording tools.
• Ability to contribute to increased student retention and achievement.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to ongoing professional development.

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that it is Newham College’s policy to offer all roles at the entry point of the salary scale advertised. However, based on your qualifications and experience, we may offer a higher starting salary within the specified salary range.
