Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. The Role:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Job Coach to join our Inclusive Learning team. This rewarding role involves supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as they gain hands-on experience in a real work environment at the College’s training café — Café Beans.
As a Job Coach, you will provide tailored coaching and guidance to help learners build essential employability skills, confidence, and independence. You’ll collaborate closely with tutors, families, local boroughs, and external partners to ensure every learner reaches their full potential in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Support and coach learners with SEND in a work-based setting using Systematic Instruction techniques.
Break down tasks into manageable steps and create supporting materials (e.g. job descriptions, task lists, maps).
Conduct and maintain health and safety checks and risk assessments for placements.
Implement reasonable adjustments to minimise barriers and ensure inclusive participation.
Train students in key café operations, including food preparation, barista skills, customer service, and health and safety practices.
Promote professional behaviour, teamwork, and excellent workplace standards among learners.
Support with employability skills such as timekeeping, presentation, and communication.
Maintain accurate records of learner progress and liaise with tutors, the café manager, and curriculum staff.
Contribute to the development of learning resources and independent learning strategies.
Ensure safeguarding, equality, and inclusion are embedded in all aspects of the role.
Assist with café operations when the Café and Catering Manager is based on another campus.
Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
Essential qualifications and experience:
Minimum of Level 2 in English and Maths (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent).
Proven experience supporting individuals with SEND in educational or work-based settings.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
Excellent organisational, IT, and record-keeping skills.
Understanding of safeguarding, equality and diversity, and health and safety practices.
Desirable:
Level 4 Teaching Qualification (CET or equivalent).
Training in Systematic Instruction.
Level 2 Food Safety qualification.
Experience in catering, hospitality, or café environments.
Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that we advertise our salaries on a range to indicate the trajectory of progression that can be made. Appointments are usually made at the start of the salary range. The salary structure includes progression within the published grades, subject to service, funding, and performance.
