Newham College is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Health and Safety to lead the strategic and operational management of health, safety, and compliance across all our campuses. This is a high-impact role at the heart of the College's Estates and Facilities team, with responsibility for fostering a culture of safety for students, staff, and visitors alike.

About the Role

As Head of Health and Safety, you will:

Develop and lead the college-wide health and safety strategy

Ensure legal and regulatory compliance across multiple sites

Lead a dedicated H&S team and provide expert guidance to the senior leadership

Oversee risk management, incident reporting, emergency planning, and audits

Deliver training programs and champion a positive, proactive safety culture

This role is critical in supporting a safe, inclusive, and sustainable learning environment across our diverse and vibrant community.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Holds a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification and is GradIOSH or CMIOSH

Has extensive experience in a senior H&S role, ideally in education or a multi-site organisation

Brings in-depth knowledge of UK H&S legislation and best practices

Is a confident communicator, able to influence at all levels and present to governance boards

Is proactive, strategic, and passionate about continuous improvement in safety standards

A degree in a relevant subject, experience in the FE sector, and a formal teaching/training qualification are desirable..

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that it is Newham College&©s policy to offer all roles at the entry point of the salary scale advertised. However, based on your qualifications and experience, we may offer a higher starting salary within the specified salary range.
