About us

What we stand for

New Horizons Children’s Academy opened in September 2014 with only four classes, we have now grown to deliver a fantastic education to nearly 600 children from the local community and we will be growing until 2020.

At New Horizons we aim to transform life chances for all children and are proud to be a school that holds high expectations, makes learning irresistible and provides a nurturing a safe environment.

As a thinking school we give children the skills to enable them to become analytical, flexible and independent. We also foster a positive attitude to learning, where every child has a belief in themselves and experiences success.

New Horizons Children’s Academy is part of The Thinking Schools Academy Trust and are committed to an ethos of excellence and a whole school approach to the teaching and learning of thinking skills. The Thinking Schools Academy Trust (TSAT) is a non-profit making charitable trust that has successfully grown over the past few years. The lead academy is the Rochester Grammar School which is not only an outstanding school but has a rich history and inspiring reputation as one of the country’s leading state schools.

At New Horizons, we want to transform the life chances of every child who walks through our door by providing an education which promotes aspiration, fosters a love of learning within a safe, purposeful and nurturing environment. We hold high aspirations and standards for all members of our school community and work in partnership with all stakeholders for the benefit of all of our children.

We believe that children only thrive when they are happy and feel safe in their environment. Therefore we work tirelessly to ensure that;

·     There are high expectations for every child

·     Every lesson matters therefore they should be exciting and motivate

      children to think and learn

·     Every child is treated as an individual and with dignity

·     Children learn to play and learn together understanding moral values of mutual respect, tolerance and personal responsibility

The Thinking Schools Academy Trust, ranked the best multi-academy trust (MAT) in the country for the performance of its secondary schools by the DfE, is made up of a family of schools that work together to “improve the life chances” of all our children and young people. We share a common mission to nurture successful children who are confident and can think and act independently. Our cognitive approach to education defines us but does not create a “one size fits all”.

At the heart of The Thinking Schools Academy Trust is the belief that the work that we do must transform the life chances of students.

We believe that the best way to transform life chances is to actively shape the minds, attitudes and habits of young people through a framework of cognitive education that enables them to become the master of their own destiny.
