St Joseph’s Catholic School & Sixth Form Centre is a Voluntary Aided School for 11 to 18 year-olds in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. It was established in 1964 to provide secondary education for the Catholic population living in areas in and around Port Talbot and Neath. The school occupies a large site in Aberavon and caters for over 800 pupils, including 202 in the Sixth Form.
St Joseph’s will benefit from Welsh Government Sustainable Communities for Learning funding to create a transformational new build 21st century school, supporting delivery of the new curriculum and providing the pupils and wider community with state of the art facilities. The new build will accommodate up to 1130 pupils, will include a Learning Support Centre for 16 pupils with additional learning needs, and a vocational learning pod, aiming to promote an engaging curriculum offer for all. The build is planned to be completed by September 2029.
The Governors are seeking to appoint an exceptional Headteacher, an inspirational leader with high aspirations for our pupils, staff and parents. The successful candidate will protect, nurture and develop the Catholic ethos and character of our school.
The successful candidate will:
• Be a committed and practising Catholic, with strong personal faith and a passion for achieving a clear vision for Catholic education that meets the needs of our diverse cohort.
• Have a proven track record of successful school leadership at a range of levels in which leadership skills are used to inspire staff and pupils alike to create a culture of excellence.
• Be committed to social justice and be able to demonstrate a relentless drive to pursue and achieve the highest standards and greatest progress for all learners, whatever their backgrounds, including those with additional learning needs and those challenged by deprivation.
• Have outstanding communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• to work closely with the local authority and diocese to develop plans for a new build school and Learning Support Centre, subject to statutory approvals and available funding

The post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. It is essential for the successful candidate to have or be working towards the NPQH or be a serving Headteacher. The successful candidate will be appointed by the Governing Body and will be required to sign the Catholic Education Service (CES) Contract.
