The role will suit someone who enjoys building positive relationships and is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to attending school regularly.

Key duties include:

• Monitor pupil attendance and punctuality on a daily basis, identifying pupils whose attendance gives cause for concern.

• Make telephone contact with parents/carers of pupils who are absent from school to establish the reason for absence and encourage prompt and regular attendance.

• Follow up unexplained absences and ensure appropriate attendance information is obtained and recorded accurately.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date attendance records and assist with attendance-related administration.

• Identify patterns of absence, persistent lateness and other attendance concerns, bringing these to the attention of appropriate members of staff.

• Support the school's procedures for improving attendance and reducing persistent absence.

• Liaise with teaching staff, pastoral teams and other relevant colleagues regarding individual pupils' attendance.

• Support communication with external agencies where appropriate.

• Assist with preparing attendance information, reports and correspondence for parents/carers and school staff.

• Ensure that information relating to pupils and families is handled sensitively and confidentially.

• Work in accordance with the school's safeguarding procedures and report any safeguarding concerns arising through contact with pupils or families.
