The Governing Body of St Joseph’s Catholic School & Sixth Form Centre is seeking to appoint an outstanding, ambitious, and passionate Head of Biology to lead and develop the Biology provision across our Science Department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented practitioner ready to take the next step in their career, or an experienced leader seeking a new challenge in a supportive and forward-thinking school.

As Head of Biology, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving excellence in Biology teaching and learning across GCSE, A-Level and BTEC pathways, ensuring high standards of achievement and fostering a love of the subject in all students. The successful candidate will sit within the departmental structure supporting the leadership of the Head of Science & Technology, contributing strategically to the vision, direction and continued success of the Science Department.

St Joseph’s is a dynamic, community-focused and innovative school, where students are enthusiastic, staff are dedicated, and leadership is highly supportive. Our Science Department is well-established, collaborative and consistently achieves strong outcomes at Key Stage 4 and Post-16.

We are looking for someone who:

Is an excellent classroom practitioner with a specialism in Biology;

Has the vision and leadership skills to drive forward Biology across all key stages;

Is confident teaching Biology at KS5 and Science at KS3/KS4;

Can inspire and motivate students and staff alike;

Has high expectations for student achievement, progress and attitudes;

Is committed to collaborative working and curriculum innovation;

Is ready to contribute to departmental leadership within the current structure;

Believes in the transformative power of education and is dedicated to student success.

In return, we offer:

A caring and welcoming school with a strong Catholic ethos at its heart;

Motivated, respectful students who are keen to learn;

A supportive and collaborative staff team;

Opportunities for leadership development and career progression;

A strong commitment to high-quality Continuous Professional Development;

A leadership team that values innovation, wellbeing and professional growth.

We welcome applications from both experienced leaders and aspiring middle leaders ready to step into their first leadership role. At St Joseph’s, professional learning is central to our culture, and we are committed to developing all staff, regardless of experience.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged and can be arranged by appointment.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively support and promote the Catholic ethos of the school. Applications must be made using the CES application form, including a supporting statement outlining suitability for the role.
