The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an inspirational Headteacher with an excellent track record of school improvement to collaboratively lead committed and talented staff who share in the school’s motto: ‘Nid da lle gellir gwell – It isn’t good enough if it isn’t your best’. This is a permanent post.

Dŵr y Felin is a highly successful, oversubscribed 11-16 Comprehensive School with excellent facilities serving the centre of Neath. The school has an outstanding reputation for its academic and pastoral wellbeing. In 2020, the school opened a Learning Support Centre for key stage 3 and 4 pupils from across the Local Authority with Autistic Spectrum Condition.

We are looking for a new Headteacher who will meet our high expectations and benefit from a school community that is supportive and committed to learning and will drive forward the school’s ambitions for the future. We wish to continue with a school community that is supportive, innovative and committed to learning. Governors are very proud of the current ethos of the school.

The Governing Body are also very proud of the school’s academic standards and traditional values and the commitment to ensuring ‘every child matters’ together with providing an enhanced learning opportunity and support for all pupils.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a proven track record of high-quality leadership and management skills, be committed to maintaining very high standards and have the ambition and determination to develop educational provision at Dŵr y Felin appropriate for the 21st century.

The Governing Body are looking to appoint a headteacher:

• who is a strong, engaging, experienced and skilled leader;

• who is committed to safeguarding the school community;

• who can lead change which impacts on the raising of standards and school improvement;

• who can use a range of evidence to evaluate the performance of all aspects of the school;

• who can use these evaluations to identify effective practice and to identify priorities for development;

• who has the necessary communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to motivate others;

• who is committed to securing an inclusive learning environment;

• with the skill, vision and ability to inspire and enthuse the whole school community;

• who can motivate and develop staff and pupils to maximise their progress;

• who is committed to the professional development of all members of staff;

• who has relevant experience in constructing a curriculum that will engage all learners;

• who can communicate effectively with parents, governors and outside agencies, in order to lead the school into the next stage of its development;

• who is an experienced professional committed to working in partnership with the community;

• who has a proven track record of successful school leadership;

• who has relevant management experience in relation to staffing, budget and leading staff and working with the Governing Body.
