The Headteacher and governors are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Curriculum Leader to Second in the Mathematics Department to commence on November 3rd 2025.

We wish to appoint an ambitious, innovative and dedicated practitioner with expertise who is committed to raising achievement and provision in Mathematics and Numeracy and shares the vision and values of Dwr y Felin School.

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching in Mathematics and Numeracy area at secondary level. They will have the skill and expertise to provide challenge and opportunity for pupils of all abilities to develop wider skills in lessons and within extracurricular activities.

The Mathematics and Numeracy department is made up of seven full-time staff members, with three additional colleagues supporting the team. It is a highly successful department, benefiting from excellent teaching and learning facilities, with all classrooms conveniently located together.

All pupils are entered for GCSE Mathematics and Numeracy, with impressive results in 2023—65% achieving a grade C or higher in their best Maths qualification, with an average points score of 38. Additionally, 16% of pupils secured an A*/A grade in Mathematics. More able students have the opportunity to take Additional Maths in partnership with the local college.

At Key Stage 4, pupils in Years 10 and 11 receive eight hours of Mathematics lessons across a two-week timetable. In Key Stage 3, students are grouped by ability and attend six one-hour sessions within the same period.

The main aspects of the role are:

• To assist the Head of Mathematics and Numeracy in the successful leadership and management of the Mathematics and Numeracy department in raising standards in teaching and learning at both key stages. To promote and secure high achievement for all students in Design and Technology

• To lead on whole school development of pupils’ numeracy skills outside of the Mathematics department
