Teacher of Art

Start Date: January 2027

Salary: MPS/UPS

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

The Governing Body of St Joseph’s Catholic School & Sixth Form Centre is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, creative and highly motivated Teacher of Art to join our school from January 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and passionate teacher to inspire the next generation of young artists, develop students’ creativity and confidence, and contribute to a vibrant and ambitious curriculum. With the potential for departmental leadership opportunities to arise during the academic year, this post may be particularly attractive to teachers who are looking to develop their careers and take on additional responsibilities.

We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who can bring Art to life, encourage students to explore their creativity and develop their artistic skills, and foster a genuine enthusiasm for the subject.

At St Joseph’s, we believe that the creative arts play a vital role in helping young people develop their individuality, imagination and confidence. We are committed to providing opportunities for all students to discover their talents, express themselves and achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will join a welcoming and supportive school community, working alongside dedicated colleagues who are passionate about providing the very best educational experiences for our students.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an excellent and enthusiastic classroom practitioner with strong subject knowledge and a passion for Art;
  • Has high expectations for student achievement, progress and attitudes to learning;
  • Can deliver engaging, imaginative and challenging Art lessons across Key Stage 3 and GCSE;
  • Has the ability to teach Art at A-Level, or the enthusiasm and expertise to develop their teaching at Post-16;
  • Can demonstrate a range of artistic skills, techniques and approaches, encouraging students to experiment and develop their own creative styles;
  • Is enthusiastic about contributing to the wider creative life of the school, including exhibitions, displays and enrichment opportunities;
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and is committed to curriculum development and continuous professional learning;
  • Believes in the transformative power of education and the importance of nurturing the talents and aspirations of every young person.

In return, we offer:

  • A caring, welcoming school with a strong Catholic ethos at its heart;
  • Wonderful students who are at the centre of everything we do;
  • A supportive, friendly and collaborative staff team;
  • The opportunity to inspire creativity and contribute to the development of Art within our school;
  • Opportunities to teach across the age and ability range, including within our Sixth Form;
  • A strong commitment to high-quality professional learning and career development;
  • Opportunities to contribute to whole-school creative projects, exhibitions and enrichment activities;
  • A leadership team that values innovation, wellbeing and professional growth.
  • An opportunity to make your mark

We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and those at an earlier stage in their careers, including newly qualified teachers.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about Art education and wants to make a real difference to the experiences and opportunities available to young people.

At St Joseph’s, professional learning is central to our culture, and we are committed to supporting all colleagues to develop their expertise, share ideas and continually improve their practice.

Visits to the school are warmly encouraged and can be arranged by appointment.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and fully support the Catholic ethos and mission of St Joseph’s Catholic School & Sixth Form Centre. Applicants will be required to complete the CES application form, including a supporting statement explaining their suitability for the role.

If you are passionate about Art, committed to inspiring young people and excited by the opportunity to help students discover and develop their creative potential, we would be delighted to hear from you.
