The Post

The Network Support Technician will assist the Network Manager in delivering high-quality IT services to the entire school. This role involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT equipment and systems, ensuring smooth technology operations to support teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

The Network Support Technician is required to:

• Carry out all duties allocated in an effective manner and liaise closely with the Network Manager

• Liaise with staff and students in relation IT services

• Attend such courses as are necessary for the performance of their duties

Duties

The Network Support Technician will be required to undertake some or all of the range of duties detailed below under the supervision of the Network Manager:

• Support the network manager in delivering IT services to the whole school.

• Installation and maintenance of computers, printers, projectors and other IT equipment.

• Installation and updating of software. Including monitoring the status of updates and troubleshooting where necessary.

• Preparing and testing installation packages for new software titles.

• Daily checks of key technology to ensure issues are identified early and dealt with effectively.

• Monitor the department stock of consumable and high turnover items. Ordering replacements in a timely manner as stock runs low.

• Dealing with queries from parents with reference to accessing school IT systems.

• Troubleshooting IT issues around the school as they happen.

• Maintaining record of IT equipment.

• Managing daily backups.

• Responding to requests for password and user account activations / resets. Disk space quotas changes.

• Familiar with Windows 11, Microsoft Office and to be able to prioritise tasks. Some experience with Microsoft Intune would be ideal but not essential

• Assisting staff and students with hardware and software problems to enable Teaching and Learning to take place without restriction

• Assisting with checking and installing new computer equipment on arrival and redeploying existing hardware as required, and in doing so, maintaining accurate records of the equipment

• Performing regular inspections of school IT facilities and equipment and assisting with the routine and reactive maintenance identified

• Assisting with the daily management of user accounts on the network and our online learning platforms

• Assisting with the logging of all technical faults using the help desk system

• Assisting with the installation of new and existing software packages across school devices

• Maintenance and verification of school’s daily backup routine

• Maintenance and verification of school’s anti-virus solution

• Assist with stock control of consumables, dealing with suppliers to ensure best value

• Liaising with external support agencies to resolve faults speedily

• Technical Support in the Henrician Theatre, including contacting the hires about tech; responding to the Tech Riders that they submit; planning and checking equipment and organising technicians

For all aspects of their role, the post holder is required to comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations. This includes taking reasonable care for the Health and Safety of themself and for others affected by the post holder’s works, and co-operating with the employer in ensuring that Health and Safety responsibilities are carried out.
