The Royal Alexandra and Albert School is a boarding school for girls and boys aged 7 to 18. Our results have risen steadily over the last eleven years and, in parallel, our pupil numbers have grown from 530 in 2002 to 965 today.
With 85 pupils in the Lower Sixth we are big enough to offer a wide range of subjects but small enough to care about each pupil. 40% of all A level grades obtained in 2013 were grade B or above and the Lower Sixth achieved 45% of top grades.
In addition to high quality teaching, pupils enjoy outstanding pastoral care, top-class facilities and packed schedule of activities. With 440 boarders and 525 Flexi Boarders and Day Boarders this is a lively community with lessons on Saturday mornings and a significant community of boarders who stay at weekends.
Excellent results combined with affordable fees make this school the first choice for many parents seeking a boarding education for their child.
This school is a rarity in that it is one of only a tiny number of maintained schools in the country which is a true boarding school - in the sense that boarders constitute a significant proportion of the whole School, there are lessons on Saturday mornings and we run a huge activities programme which starts at 4.00 pm and ends around 9.30 pm. We also have much longer holidays!
We are a non-selective school that nevertheless achieves excellent results, with 68% of pupils achieving five or more good passes at GCSE including English and Maths last Summer. We have 64 pupils in the Upper Sixth – only our second Upper Sixth cohort – but there are 70 pupils in the Lower Sixth and we are planning for around 100 pupils in the Lower Sixth in September 2013 studying over 20 subjects at A level.
