Teacher of Maths (fixed term to cover maternity)

Established in 1694, Robert May's School is a coeducational comprehensive 11-16 secondary school with academy status, located in the village of Odiham, Hampshire with inclusive education and high expectations for all being the foundation on which the school was originally established. The school has undergone a period of growth in terms of student numbers and has 1,350 students on roll with 10 forms in each year group. The school has an exceptional reputation in the community and is regularly over-subscribed.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional and inspiring Teacher of Maths who is passionate about their subject and able to make a positive contribution to the learning experiences of our students.

Applications from Early Career Teachers or experienced teachers are encouraged and a comprehensive induction and support package would be available if appropriate. You will be joining a supportive team in a growing school, teaching across the age and attainment range at both Key Stage 3 and 4 in an environment where students are well behaved and keen to do well. Our vacancy is ideally for 0.6 FTE (3 days a week).

At RMS, we are looking for a teacher who:

  • Has excellent subject knowledge and strong teaching skills
  • Is able to build positive relationships with all learners and is committed to raising attainment of all students
  • Will work collaboratively within the Maths team to contribute to the success of the department
  • Is willing to commit to extracurricular activities that add value to the school and local community
  • Is able to respond positively and creatively to the changing expectations of the subject

In return, we can offer:

  • Excellent support and fantastic opportunities for continued professional development
  • High priority given to staff and student wellbeing
  • A dedicated and hardworking team who place students at the heart of everything
  • Supportive families who value education and great students who want to learn
  • A well-resourced curriculum area
  • A broad, exciting and personalised curriculum with a focus on collaborative planning
  • A full programme of trips and visits, giving you the chance to share in making positive memories with students
  • Consistently excellent student attainment and progress

We pride ourselves on our ethos and culture which promotes positive relationships and behaviour. In our most recent Ofsted report (Nov 2022), inspectors observed that ‘“Lessons are calm and purposeful and led by knowledgeable, passionate teachers. Pupils show dedication to learning and pay close attention to their teacher’s instruction”’.

Maths is a leading department within the school and we are proud of our outstanding record of success. In summer 2023, 83.1% of our students achieved a Grade 4 or higher in Maths.

We have high expectations of all our students and are committed to the personal and professional development of our staff. Our flagship CPD programme includes courses suitable for professional development at all career stages including preparation for middle and senior leadership.

We would welcome the opportunity for an informal chat or visit.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy prior to the closing date should a suitable candidate be identified.

The school holds a valid sponsor licence to be able to sponsor a Skilled Worker.

An online search will be conducted for all shortlisted candidates, in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, to identify any past or current incidents or issues that might affect your suitability to work with children and undertake this role.
