Teacher of Chemistry
January 2022
Can you help our students to be at the leading edge of scientific learning? Our dynamic teaching team needs a Chemistry specialist to teach across Years 7-13 and Physics to GCSE, inspiring students of all ages with a love of science.
Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. Our vision is to provide an outstanding co-educational experience for children as the family school of choice. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) has recently judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.
This is an exciting time to join the Science department following the opening in September 2020 of a brand-new purpose-built Science block consisting of 10 laboratories, 2 teaching rooms and discipline specific prep rooms. The Sciences are one of the strengths of the school and are some of our most popular A level choices with an increasing number of students applying for science degrees. Science is delivered as an integrated subject in Years 7, with subject specialism delivered from Year 8. Students are placed into ability sets for the separate science subjects from Year 9. Each science has dedicated technician support to further extend student learning opportunities.
At KS4 we follow the Edexcel IGCSE syllabus offering all three individual sciences as well as the double science award. At A-Level we deliver the AQA Chemistry specification A. Our Chemistry students achieved 100% A*-B grades at A level and 100% grade 9-6 at IGCSE in 2020 with 69% of Double Award Science grades at a 6 or above in 2021.
You should be a well-qualified, innovative and inspiring graduate teacher with outstanding subject knowledge, who has a successful track record of teaching Chemistry to the highest levels at A level, raising achievement and demonstrating improved value-added in your teaching groups. The strength of community at Royal Russell is paramount to the success of every individual and we strongly believe that we learn and achieve together.
