Teacher of Business and/or Economics 0.4 fte

January 2022

Are you a creative and inspiring teacher able to inspire our Economics and/or Business students to achieve success?

Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School and are proud of our wonderful day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. Our vision is to provide an outstanding co-educational experience for children as the family school of choice. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) has recently judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.

The Economics and Business Department offer a range of courses at GCSE, A Level and BTEC. Business GCSE is a popular option subject, running in at least three out of the four option blocks each year. In the Sixth Form we offer Edexcel Business A level and BTEC Diploma courses with great success together with Economics A Level. Many of our students go on to study a Business or Economics related degree course at university.

You will be enthusiastic and energetic in your approach and have a deep-rooted knowledge of Economics or Business at A Level and BTEC Business enabling you to build upon the successes already enjoyed by the department. Our ideal candidate will have a strong university degree in an Economics or a Business-related subject, the ability to communicate with pupils as well as being an inspirational and forward-thinking practitioner. The Economics and Business department consists of a strong team of 7 teachers who teach across disciplines and qualifications.

This post is suitable for someone looking to work flexibly over the School week and the 0.4 fte can be adjusted to suit the needs of the School and successful candidate. We would be keen to understand the availability of candidates in their application statement.

If you are ambitious to take on the opportunity of enhancing your skills for your next appointment by contributing to our extra-curricular programme or by supporting the pastoral life of our school, you may be the right candidate for us.

We are a friendly, warm and nurturing school and we are committed to doing the very best for our students. You will become a central part of our diverse, enthusiastic and energetic family. The strength of community at Royal Russell is paramount to the success of every individual and we strongly believe that we learn and achieve together.

Royal Russell offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary on our own salary scale which is above SNS and includes allowances for specific pastoral and academic responsibilities and a market rate for recruitment. As part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School, you will work in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links. Teachers automatically join the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), or you may opt into an alternative defined contribution pension with free life cover on a promoted salary scale. In addition you will have access to free car parking, free meals, a discount on School fees, and the use of our sporting and gym facilities. Full details of our staff benefits and recruitment procedures can be found on our School recruitment page.
