The Governing Body of Royal Wootton Bassett Academy are seeking additional governors.

Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is an ambitious, oversubscribed and incredibly proud 11-18 school with 1,764 students on roll including 356 students in our very popular and successful Sixth Form. Royal Wootton Bassett is geographically situated in a pleasant location with Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds all within commuting distances.

Part of Ascend Learning Trust, Royal Wootton Bassett Academy has a transformation strategy which is yielding excellent results, including developing pupil learning behaviour, and improving pupil progress and performance. We welcome applications from individuals who are keen to join us to help the school continue its drive to inspire and create futures for all its pupils.

Governors are responsible for ensuring the clarity of direction of Royal Wootton Bassett Academy, holding the Headteacher to account for educational performance, and overseeing the priorities of the school.

Governors are required to attend six Governing body meetings a year, one per term. Meetings are normally on Wednesday, with a start time of 6pm, and last approximately 2 hours. Governors are also expected to make occasional visits to the school, for example to attend an evening Awards ceremony or musical evening. There are also opportunities during the day to take part in meetings with the senior leadership team to find out more about the work of the school.

Closing date: Open until successful appointment is made

Safeguarding Statement:

Ascend Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups, including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual-orientation or religion.

In line with KCSIE 2022 and safer recruitment practices, the school will conduct an online search for all shortlisted candidates. The online search is part of our safeguarding checks and will seek publicly available information on candidates’ suitability to work with children. Shortlisted candidates will be provided with further guidance and will be asked to clarify their online presence.

References will be obtained before interview at shortlisting stage and may be used in the interview process. If previous employment has included working with children, then at least one referee must be from this employment, regardless of whether this is the current or most recent employment, any gaps in employment must be detailed and an explanation provided in the relevant section.
