Our School

Salesian is a co-educational 11-18 Catholic comprehensive school and is part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust.

The school has 1850 students and is situated on two sites approximately one mile apart, near to the centre of Chertsey. The main school is situated at Guildford Road and our Sixth Form College has 467 students on its own site at Highfield Road.

We work hard to ensure that staff and students are well looked after but we also set exceedingly high expectations of everyone at the school and underperformance is always challenged. When you get the balance right between challenge and support you get great teaching, when you have great teaching the school becomes heavily-oversubscribed and when this is the case parents believe in what you are trying to do and support you in doing it.

2nd in Maths / Teacher

To commence: 1st September 2024

Closing Date: 22nd April 2024 – applications will be reviewed on submission.

Interview Date: TBC

Salesian School is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to Deputy the Head of Maths and teach. We welcome applications from trainee teachers and experienced colleagues alike. If you are energetic, enthusiastic and love teaching children then we’d be delighted to hear from you. We are always happy to meet potential applicants prior to interview; please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like any further information or to visit the school.

We are a strong, passionate team who pride ourselves on working hard to ensure that every student reaches their full potential and truly enjoys their Maths lessons. Our large team is made up of colleagues with a broad range of experience from interns, trainee teachers and ECTs through to those who have taught in the department for over 25 years! The positive energy and enthusiastic approach of our staff makes it a great team of people to work with. You will get a real buzz working here with great people who look after each other like a family.

We are extremely proud of our students’ results and strive to continue to improve year on year. In 2023, our Year 11 students achieved 89% grade 9-4 and 36% grade 9-7 (including 20 grade 9’s) at GCSE, with a Progress 8 score of +0.72. Maths is also an extremely popular subject at our Sixth Form, with over 150 students now studying across Years 12 and 13. In 2019, 75% of our A-Level students achieved grades A*-B and several went on to study Mathematics at university.

The department plays a lead role in the North-East Hants and Surrey MathsHub as well as training undergraduate interns and SCITTs each year. As a team we are also fully embedded in the co-curricular life of the school, offering clubs each evening and an annual Year 7 residential Maths trip. The UKMT and MathsFeast are just two examples of the many opportunities we also offer for our students. With the College constantly growing, there are also plenty of opportunities for those who are interested in teaching at Key Stage 5.

The position of Second in Maths would be ideal for a teacher with some experience of leading a key stage or equivalent role, looking for more responsibility and aspirations to be Head of Department in the future.

Please feel free to contact me for further details, ask any question or simply come to meet us and have a look around. We are really excited to welcome a new member to our community!
