Building Services Support Caretaker

We are seeking a proactive and reliable Building Services Support Caretaker to join our Estates & Facilities team at our brand new Cradley Heath campus. Reporting to the Estates Manager, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and visitors.
As part of the Estates team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that our college facilities are well maintained and operational. From supporting security and maintenance to assisting with events and daily operations, this role is ideal for a practical, hands-on individual who takes pride in their work and enjoys contributing to the smooth running of a busy educational environment.
Responsibilities
• Ensure the college is opened and closed at agreed times and maintain building security
• Carry out caretaking and grounds maintenance duties across the campus
• Supervise and support a team of cleaners
• Assist with the maintenance of heating systems and ensure emergency equipment is serviced
• Supervise and oversee any contractors working in the building and ensure they operate within the H&S requirements set by the Estates Manager
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and report building defects and progress repairs
• Undertake minor repairs to buildings, equipment, furniture, and fittings
• Manage the receipt and movement of goods, furniture, and materials safely
• Maintain accurate records of work undertaken, including incidents and repairs
• Assist with college events such as enrolment and open evenings
• Work collaboratively with staff, students, and external partners to maintain high standards
• Comply with all health and safety requirements and college procedures
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
• C or above in English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
• Relevant experience in a building services role
• Experience working in an educational environment or similar setting (desirable)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Reliable, proactive, and able to work flexibly to meet operational needs
• Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle (desirable)
• Willingness to undertake training such as Manual Handling or First Aid
• Will be required to attain a full DBS disclosure certificate, arranged by the College.
