Sandwell College is seeking a full-time, permanent Engineering Technician (Mechanical) to join our brand-new Civil and Mechanical Engineering Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting teaching, learning and skills development within a state-of-the-art facility at the heart of our expanding engineering provision.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a proactive and dependable individual to help ensure the smooth running of our workshops. The role involves preparing materials and work areas as directed by tutors, and checking that all tools and equipment are safe and ready for use. You will also be responsible for maintaining a clean, tidy and safe environment, including the removal and disposal of old materials. In addition, you will support the management of stock and equipment by receiving deliveries, issuing tools to students, keeping accurate records and monitoring stock levels. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail, who enjoys working in a practical, hands-on setting.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The successful candidate will be educated to at least A-level standard (or equivalent) and hold a relevant NVQ Level 2/3 qualification. They will bring reasonable industry experience, including familiarity with operating industry-related machinery, and ideally some experience of working within an educational setting. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to engage confidently and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including school pupils, academic staff and employers.
