Lecturer in ESOL (16-18)

We are seeking a passionate and committed Lecturer in ESOL for our 16 to 18 provision to join our team on a part-time, fixed-term basis until the end of the 2025/26 academic year. Reporting directly to the Head of Section, you will play a key role in supporting young people to develop their English skills and achieve their progression goals in education, training and future employment.

This part-time role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive and forward-thinking team, with access to professional development and the chance to make a meaningful difference to learners’ futures.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of an innovative, creative and engaging ESOL curriculum for 16–18 year olds
  • Deliver ESOL lessons from Pre-Entry Level to Level 1
  • Work closely with the Head of Section to design a dynamic and inclusive curriculum
  • Ensure the curriculum responds to the needs of students, local communities, employers and external agencies
  • Carry out departmental duties in line with contractual responsibilities
  • Play an active role in creating meaningful enrichment and work experience opportunities, including sport, trips, visits and guest speakers
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning standards
  • Support students to achieve outstanding outcomes and a positive, high quality learning experience at Sandwell College
  • Collaborate with external organisations, college partners and local employers to meet the diverse needs of learners

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or above, or be working towards one
  • An ESOL subject specialism, or a willingness to work towards this
  • Experience delivering ESOL, and ideally Entry Level maths and/or ICT
  • The ability to motivate, support and engage mixed-ability learners
  • A commitment to inclusive practice and excellent learner outcomes
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to departmental development
  • Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)

Certificate in Education

PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)

ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)

DET (Diploma in Education and Training)

DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
