Sandwell College is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Lecturer in Essential Digital Skills to join our ESOL 19+ department. This is an exciting hourly paid opportunity, offering up to 30 teaching hours per week, with two evening teaching sessions required.
You will deliver high-quality teaching across Essential Digital Skills and IT, using engaging and innovative approaches to support a diverse cohort of adult learners, including those who are developing their English language skills. The role focuses on building learnersβ digital knowledge, confidence, and independence to support progression into further education, employment, and everyday life.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching in Essential Digital Skills and ESOL for adult learners within the Adult Essential Skills team
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons from Entry Level to Level 2 in line with curriculum and awarding body requirements
- Integrate Essential Digital Skills with ESOL provision to support learnersβ language, digital, and employability development
- Teach key digital topics, including computer basics, internet navigation, digital communication, online safety, and the use of common software and online platforms
- Design and adapt learning programmes to meet the needs of ESOL learners and support learner progression and achievement
- Assess learner progress regularly and provide clear, constructive feedback to support achievement and progression
- Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes learner confidence and participation
- Contribute to curriculum development, assessment practices, learner support, and the continuous improvement of provision
- Work collaboratively within course teams and across the wider department to support high-quality delivery
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Certificate in Education, Level 5 teaching qualification, or equivalent
- A relevant teaching qualification in Essential Digital Skills, IT, or ESOL, or willingness to work towards an ESOL subject specialism
- ESOL subject specialism
- Experience of teaching adult learners in Essential Digital Skills, IT, ESOL, and digital or Functional Skills ICT qualifications
- Experience of teaching Entry Level and Level 1 learners
- Experience of working with diverse learner groups, including ESOL learners
