The Education Achievement Service (EAS) provides school improvement services on behalf of the five local authorities in South East Wales. Our vision is to ensure that there is excellent leadership and provision in schools and settings across the region to inspire and motivate all our young people to be the best they can be. We work in partnership with a wide range of school leaders to ensure that our schools and settings are well led and that they provide the best possible climate for excellence in teaching and learning.

We are an ambitious organisation and are now looking for new people to join our Board and help us to achieve our aims. We are particularly looking for people from senior leadership backgrounds who can provide strategic insight and challenge our thinking in a constructive way. An educational background would be useful but not essential, we are seeking experience in the areas of HR and Legal, with a particular focus on Change Management.

We are offering a full induction programme and ongoing training in all aspects of governance as well as mentoring, guidance and feedback from the Chair of the Board. The post is unremunerated (we will pay directly incurred travel expenses) and expectations are that you will take an ongoing interest in our work, prepare for, and attend board meetings and ad hoc meetings and training as required.

Board meetings take place quarterly and so the time commitment required is unlikely to be more than six days per year. These are mostly virtual via Microsoft teams.

The appointment will be for one year in the first instance with the opportunity to extend subject to performance and Board need. We are keen to ensure that we have an appropriate balance of skills on the Board, therefore, appointments will be made to enhance the attributes that we have and will not necessarily be down to personal ability.

If you want more information about the role, please contact Geraint Willington via email Geraint.Willington@ sewaleseas.org.uk.
