- To provide high-quality, targeted reading interventions for students in Years 7 to 11 to improve literacy outcomes across the academy.
- To lead the assessment of students' reading abilities and implementing "stage-not-age" intervention programmes.
- To support students across a broad spectrum of need, ranging from fundamental letter and word recognition to advanced reading and comprehension fluency.
- To bridge the gap between targeted intervention and the wider curriculum by supporting students within the classroom to apply their literacy skills.
- To proactively foster a love of reading and a culture of literacy across the student body.
- To play a vital role in supporting the successful integration and academic progress of newly arrived EAL (English as an Additional Language) pupils.
- To assist in the assessment of EAL needs, support the implementation of effective interventions, and foster positive communication between the school, parents, and external agencies.
- To work under the direction of the Head of Inclusion to contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment for EAL students
Working hours
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 8:30 to 4:30
Friday - 8:30 to 4:00
Term time only plus 5 days
Job requirements
- GCSE or equivalent including Maths and English at Grade C or above.
- GCSE Advanced Level or equivalent qualification.
- High levels of academic literacy
- Understanding of "stage-not-age" intervention pedagogy and barriers to reading
- Ability to find solutions to complex problems.
- A commitment to school improvement and raising achievement for all students.
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
